Tools You Need:
- Brush or Comb: An appropriate Brush or Comb is very important for your dog depending on hair size. If hair size is large take a brush with metal pins. Rubber brush can be ok for short sized hair pets.
- Scissors: Take a scissor which can easily cut hair without snagging or pulling.
- Clippers: A pair of clippers will be needed. Dog clippers are safer and easy to used then man clippers.
- Shampoo: Dogs skin PH is different than human skin PH and are more sensitive therefore man shampoo should not be used for dogs. Your local veterinary clinic can provide you best suggestion for dog’s shampoo.
- Dry Towels
- A dog bath tub or a non-slip mat
Bathing Your Dog:
Bathing your dog before grooming dog is the best practice especially when they have unpleasant odors or dirty coat. Bathing him outdoor or using a tub is yours choice but if dog size is large then outdoor bathing is suggested. Always check water temperature before bathing if it is warm for you then it is warm for you dog also.
Before start bathing all equipment should be introduced to the dog number by number. Be calm and patient. Then start brushing your dog and this may take longer for long-haired dogs. This will prevent hair from scattering all over home. Start from head, comb from front to rear and top to bottom. Don’t let any space in entire coat of hair and be careful using any tool near face, eyes and ears.
Now fill the bath tub with three to four inch of water. Make sure that water is not too cool or warm. After this place your dog into the water. With shower start your dog body wet and make sure that you sock your back, bottom, bally, legs and neck. Don’t sock there head at this stage because he might feel uncomfortable at this stage. When finished with wetting take your chosen shampoo and start applying it to fur gently. Give him a nice massage area and with this you will also know if there is any lump, cut or any sore area on his body. Give him a good petting during this process so that dog feels that he is doing a good job. After finishing shampoo remove shampoo with shower. Use a cup of tea if your dog didn’t like shower. Don’t let any shampoo in his body as it leads to itching and dry skin.
Right after this it’s time to wash his head. Put some water on the dog’s head and then using your hand gently wipe that water around the face. Putting the shower directly over the head is not a good idea even if it is slow because it can bother your dog. Once you finished with wetting gently apply the shampoo on his head and muzzles. If eyes, nose and ears need to be cleaned use a damp cotton wool. Wash all the applied shampoo as done previously. Drain the water while dog is still in the bath tub. Now dry your dog using a towel and give him a good brush.

Brush Your Dog:
After dry start brushing from head. Start from front to rear and top to bottom. Be careful with stomach area. Brushing will take some time if dog is long-hair. Brush smoothly and avoid too hard.
Grooming Your Dog:
With great care first cut hair between the paws, separate the pads and cut the fur in between with a scissor. Follow the same procedure for all foot paws. Then start cutting with clipper from front to rear and top to bottom. Make sure that your clipper is sharp enough that won’t catch and pull on your dog’s hairs. If you found any redness or swelling then visit your veterinarian before grooming. Groom slow and check temperature of clipper after some time, if it is hot take a break.
Be extra careful with head area. Comb before cutting any hair of head. First remove hair from eyes area with a scissor and then from muzzles and make a round shape and at last from airs. Now you have finished grooming dog at home.
